The Power Of The Little Things
The power of the little things is more often than not present in your everyday life, and I think it is something we often have a hard time putting lights on. But let’s face it, what we remember the most at the end of the day is often the little things rather than the big picture.
Throughout all the big events that have occurred in my life or all the big changes that have happened in my past, when I sit down and think about all of it, what I remember the most is the little things that made these moments special, like having macarons in Paris, sipping a glass of wine in Antibes, having charcuterie in Florence, or seeing my nieces and nephew run to me for a hug when I haven’t seen them in a long time when I go back to visit, and the list can go on. These are the moments that I remind myself and that gives me the most joy. When you put focus into it, it is easy to point out the little things in our lives and make us realize what is really important at the end of the day. One of many examples could be, looking at a child chasing bubbles, exploring the water for the first time or speaking their first words, what is even more mesmerizing is the people that gather around with a smile on their faces to share that beautiful moment with the child and making the most of it. Another could be your loved one making you a coffee in the morning to start the day, just for the simple reason that they know it makes you happy. Even, sitting down for a good meal beside your family and friends and sharing stories and laughter, is something that all of us should not overlook and appreciate. If you open your eyes, you can easily see that every day, everywhere, you are surrounded by the little things that make it all worth it and bring you and others joy and that, in my opinion, is what it is all about, after all.
My challenge for you is to go on with your day and try to pay attention to the little things that are making you smile throughout that time. I promise you will be surprised by the amount of little things that bring you happiness and make your day more gratifying. Another thing you can do is ask yourself how you can bring joy in someone else’s day to make other people happy, maybe it is by giving a genuine compliment to someone, speaking up when you had good service at a restaurant, playing your partner’s favourite song during the car ride, giving a hug to someone that might need it or even bringing lunch for a coworker, the list can go on and on, really there’s an infinite way to help someone make their day. A little can go a long way. Why not try to spread happiness and kindness around you?
If you are ever having a bad day which happens, we all have those, take a moment, sit down and state five things that you are currently grateful for. I feel like this tricks your brain immediately into thinking about something positive rather than focusing on the negative aspect of it. Note that I am not implying that it is bad to have those days and that you should avoid how you’re feeling at that moment but when you’re ready, play your favourite song and see how that makes you feel, or have your favourite meal and see how that makes you change your mood. All I am saying is there are different ways how the power of the little things can help you, acknowledge it and use it to your advantage and see how that can make you appreciate the little joys of life.
The power of the little things is always around you, you just have to put your focus into it and I guarantee a new perspective will arise in front of your eyes. I mean it is not like it costs anything to try so go ahead, open your mind and see for yourself.
On this note, I wish you, who is reading this blog that the year 2025 brings you happiness every day, a lot of memorable moments and to be fulfilled.
Cheers to the new year and the next coffee break!
